Glutathione
Endogenous tripeptide antioxidant (GSH) — biochemistry ≠ IV cosmetic claim; skin-lightening contested.
Editorial review:Evidence snapshot
This drawer marks papers. It is not a plan, a dose, or a source. A paper is a bounded report. It is not a protocol. Grades name the object. They are not a safety rating.
Identity lock. Glutathione (γ-L-glutamyl-L-cysteinylglycine; reduced GSH) is an endogenous tripeptide antioxidant cofactor. PubChem CID 124886; formula C10H17N3O6S / MW 307.33; CAS 70-18-8. Distinct from oxidized GSSG, from glutathione peroxidase / GST enzyme systems, from Melanotan (naming collision only — not an α-MSH analogue), and from cosmetic “IV glutathione” marketing narratives. Biochemistry ≠ proof that every supplemental route raises tissue GSH or lightens skin safely. This drawer marks papers. It is not use advice.
Bottom line
Core biochemistry (Meister-line synthesis and redox roles) is textbook-solid. Oral supplementation has at least one randomized store-raising trial (Richie) plus metabolic/obesity exploratory work; skin-lightening literature is contested (systematic reviews + controversy pieces) and must not be graded as established cosmetic medicine. Enzyme/system reviews are not the same object as supplemental GSH.

PMID 39444151 — Sarkar 2025
Tested: systematic review of glutathione as a skin-lightening agent and in melasma.
Does not show: a universal safety/efficacy license for IV or oral cosmetic use.
PMID 20524875 — Arjinpathana 2012
Tested: randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of oral glutathione as a whitening agent.
Does not show: long-term dermatologic safety or regulatory cosmetic approval by itself.
What is not established
That oral GSH store changes equal disease-outcome benefits. That contested skin-lightening literature is settled medicine. Safety and identity of unregulated IV glutathione infusions. Equivalence of GSH supplements to enzymatic glutathione-peroxidase biology. This drawer does not provide use advice, schedules, or sourcing.
